The SVCC’s Workforce Development Services (WDS) works with business and industry in the Southside Virginia area to ensure that students have the skills they need for entry-level positions through workforce development courses, training, and programs. New and displaced workers also have the option of earning portable skills and credentials through this program. The SVCC also offers special courses or programs to the community’s industries, businesses or professions that can be taught on-site. The satellite locations Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center and Southside VA Education Center also offer certifications and training programs.

The Manufacturing Advancement division leads workforce development initiatives like the national Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program (in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense), leads the integration of emerging technologies, and offers critical industry solutions and services through the Center for Manufacturing Advancement (CMA).
As a bridge between academia and industry, the Applied Research division supports companies across various industries like advanced manufacturing, advanced materials, and environmental and life sciences. Services include ISO-certified analytical chemistry, temporary lab space, cutting-edge contract research and advancement of the controlled environment agriculture and biotechnology industries.
